Saga of childhood and adolescence based on Janet Frame's autobiography. Janet Frame grows up in a poor family with lots of brothers and sisters, obviously different from the other children from an early age. She trains as a teacher but since she is considered abnormal she is locked up in a mental institution for eight years. She finds success when she becomes an author.
